Hello all! I have developed what I think is Asthma, but I'm not sure. Since the start of this year my symptoms have been getting progressivly worse. I had to get rid of my cat. All though I have always had an allergy to cats, I had him for almost 5 years. I kept my allergy at bay best I could. Now I have still got symptoms and it's been over a month and it's not getting better. All of this is preceaded by 4 kidney infections in 5 months. one of which landed me in the hospital for a week. I have an appointment with National Jewish tomorrow and I just can't help but think that there is something other than steroids and inhailers that can help me. I haven't done any work on my chakras in a long time and my conscience is telling me that there is something there I need to look at. I am a recovering alcoholic who is a year and a half out from destroying my body. I have done a TON of healing mentaly and physically from the damage I did to my body. But there is this!! I have had problems with my lungs since I was a child.
Is there anyone of you who have some ideas? I'm not against conventional dr.'s at this point. I just don't want to be dependent on them when I know there are other forces at work here. I have to wonder if my starting Yoga has anything to do with it all? I am eager to hear some thoughts...

Re: Need to breath
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 4:21 PMhave you tried working with a wholistic healer, such as a naturopath (ND) or acupuncturist? many of them will work in tandem with an MD if you choose to do that, too. i know acupuncture can work wonders on pet allergies and lung problems in general, and it can definitely help with the kidneys.
when you're already showing signs of dis-ease, chakra work and yoga can help, but it's a good idea to rely on something much stronger and faster for your mainstay treatment. (i.e. chinese or north american herbs or homeopathy and a good healing practitioner).
a few basic things: are you eating good foods, like no red meat, lots of fresh veggies, cruciferous ones especially, like cauliflower, broccoli, kale, cabbage? are you drinking plenty of good-quality water? getting exercise that makes you sweat? all these can help your body purify itself, if it's trying to get rid of allergens or toxic build-up.
steroids definitely reduce symptoms in the short-term. it's good to note that they work by suppressing your immune system, which means they can make you more prone to ailments in the longer term, and they can accumulate,, even the inhalant kinds, which also weaken your sinus tissue over time if used for long periods. if they're helping you now, that's great. maybe they are merely needed as a tool until you find a safer and more effective long-term treatment.
(i'm not a doctor or health practitioner, just someone who's done lots of alternative healing, so don't take my word for anything other than opinion and my own experience. listen to yourself and what feels right for you.)
congratulations on making so many positive changes for yourself. sometimes it's not easy, i know.
sending healing thoughts your way.
namaste,

Re: Need to breath
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 4:32 PMi have changed my diet. I don't eat alot of red meat anymore. Lots of veggies. I know I don't drink enough water, but I do try. I forgot to mention that I also quit smoking 6 months ago as well. I stopped going to yoga because I was hacking up a lung, but I do plan on getting back in. I had planned on starting running again as well, but it's kinda hard when you can't breath. I am checking with my insurance to see what options I have there. But I also have other avenues that I can explore as far as acupuncture and what not. Thanks for the info!
