Meditation question

topic posted Thu, March 20, 2008 - 12:29 PM by  Brian
Hello all this is my first post in this tribe. I have been going to a spiritual healer who does energy work on me while meditating. I carry my anxiety in my chest and I have been uncovering the sources of this anxiety and peeling back the layers. I have made an enormous amount of progress through the healing and have come to some reality shattering realizations that will have a great affect on my life as I know it. My issue stems from meditation on my own. When I start to go inside and I start to clear my mind I will start to feel the anxiety well up inside. It's weird I can't explain it, and I have a very hard time getting ahold of it. I swear it's the different thigns I have been holding onto and my lack of being on the right path for so long that is trying it's hardest to keep it's hold over me.

So, I am looking for some perspective and for any recommendations as to how to quell the anxiety. I would normally consult my healer on this but she is on vacation. Thank you in advance :)

    Hi Brian,

It doesn't sound weird at all to me. I've recently gone through a really similar experience. What helped me most was allowing the feelings, not avoiding or pushing them away but embracing them, and asking calmly during meditation (and at all times) what this feeling was trying to show me. It takes some courage and faith to sit calmly and centered in the face of uncomfortable emotions, and I do believe this is the key to overcoming them. When we face them, we can remember we are not the emotions, we are the witness experiencing an emotion moving through us for a specific purpose. When you face the emotion directly, it can guide you, and once it does, it releases back into pure potential.

So in practice, you might try breathing deeply and washing the feelings with the breath while you observe them, reminding yourself that you are safe and that it's okay to feel what you're feeling, because it is merely an experience, not your permanent bliss state that resides underneath all the layers.

I hope that helps a little.

Take a hot bath in epsom salts.

Then, lie down and do some deep breath work to toally relax.

If you feel an emotion coming, allow it to pass through you like a wave, without trying to attach to it.

      LOVE TO ALL

Thank you Claude and Dave for your informative posts. I know that I have made progress towards facing this energy head on. I feel that it is a matter of me getting used to allowing myself to enter this state and to stop fighting it. Even as I have gone through energy work with my healer she continually reminds me to not quell or continue to suppress the emotion from coming out and to let if flow through me and embrace it. I am uncovering years and years of emotion and trying to pell those layers back.

Claude........I made this same post in the meditation tribe and I see a resounding theme that is right inline with your thoughts. The path that I am on is the correct one and that the progress that I have made is natural. I think I am dealing with having a lack of patience towards the journey itself and probably "pressing" too hard in hopes of continuing to make the same sized leap each time. I know there's a lesson to be learned here, and it's a matter of allowing what's coming to have an unimpeded path.

I appreciate all that you have offered, thank you for taking the time to reply :)

Agave.....I will be sure to come back and post up the findings that I have had through these suggestions. You might also check out the same thread that I started in the meditation tribe. There are many good answers and suggestions in there as well. Thank you so much who took the time to read my post and offer suggestions.

many people today are afflicted with entities.
leftover energy patterns caught like a cold,
family line demons acquired during birth,
        malignant thought-forms sent by others,
& things from the elemental universes.

Hello all...I would like to share my experiences. I have been in the healing profession for 8 years. I did lots of schooling, but it was very own experiences that shed the most light on me. I had many years of abuse from my mother and past romantic relationships. At one point in my life I was meditating twice a day and doing yoga, along with organic eating. So anyways I found when i was meditating I had the same chest tightness or fear, also my throat felt as if it was closing. I would want to cry but would stuff it back down inside. There would be times when my nervous system during meditation would freak out and my eyes would start shaking while they were closed. Anyways we all have lots of shit moving around in our souls from either this life or past. It is very scary. When you find you can really tap into your energies, it's intense. I even went through a period where i could read other peoples emotions in like 5 minutes. That was intense and very troubling at times. I had to incorporate many grounding techniques. I've even encountered other dimensional beings, once my friends dead father. so anyways my advice to you as a healer, human, and spiritual being is to work through it, use your intuition. Try to listen to your body and DO NOT hold back from your true emotions. If you feel like crying, screaming, saying fuck a thousand times over then do it. It is your only freedom. I also do belly work with people that helps tap into their solar plexus and root chakra and has great physical results too. when you meditate try to start by breathing from your belly and slowly allowing your breath to come up through your chest. Eventualy your breathing will happen on its own and you will feel relaxed enough to reach that empty space. Good Luck. Love and Light, Joy

I would like to say also that still to this day meditating is very hard for me at times. You really have to stick with it. It takes years and years and years to master it.

yeah i know what you mean.

    i don't think there's any simple answer.
Try to 'train the brain' to expect the meditations if you're doing them regularly. Keep a ritual of some kind (doesn't have to be spiritual or anythihng, could be doin it at the same time or drinking water before hand or something).

    other than that. practice.

    good luck

    hi Brian,
thanks for your bravery in sharing!

i have come across a similar phenomenon recently, and one of my observations is this:
in our society of so much instant gratification, it feels easy to unconsciously expect that when we meditate (or do other activities that bring us in touch with ourselves), we will instantly feel enlightened, fully aware, blissful, etc., and that any 'negative' feelings or blockages mean that we're somehow 'doing it wrong.'
but, in my experience, the light often emerges from darkness. allowing yourself to delve into the unknown of yourself, without judgments, and with curiosity, will allow you to be more present in whatever you are actually feeling and experiencing. maybe you won't find the calm, peaceful self you were hoping for, because perhaps that self is still hiding behind the scared, angry self that needs to be expressed first.
and it's all learning isn't it, even if our expectations don't match reality? maybe we need to change our expectations.

    peace,
    Robin

Man it's funny I check myspace then tribe and find I have more in common with those I do not know. One thing that also happened to me when I took on a serious spiritual u -turn back to ONE was separate myself from peeps. These were peeps not interested in growing or just kind of stuck. This happened at the same time I started meditating and all that good spiritual jazz. A lot of people did not like me after and felt I abondoned them. It was hard because I loved them dearly but was not resonating on their energy frequency. It is still painful to this day, but I've grown so much. Some days I wish I was ignorant again and did not know as much as I do, but ultimately I know it is a gift to have this much knowledge, and knowing I will only gain more. The road to freedom is never easy and some get left behind, but always stay tucked in my heart...I can only hope they find the happiness I now possess. You should all check this women out, she's an incredible inspiration for us all.

If I didn't have EFT (emofree.com) to accompany during my meditation I think I would really struggle with the scary stuff.

Also, there's no reason why you should have to go through difficult things ALONE!!! That is why there are people out there - meditation does not have to equal solitude. If there are tough issues for you you'd like to experience and let go - find a healer/teacher to help you through. There are soooo many wonderful people out there ready and here to assist. It's so much more powerful to work with others.... even if it's group meditation.

        Peace to you,
        Lynn

Joy......I totally know what you mean, and this is something that I can sense in my own reality. I would presume that a lot of it has to do with you raising your own frequency past their own. I generally have a day or two adjustment period after going through energy work. It's weird and the only way to explain it is like being in a haze or a fog. I feel detached from most of the world around me, almost devoid of feeling/emotion. Granted I am releasing a hell of a lot of emotion while going through the healing. I love to see your attitude about all of this.

Robin.....so many people have offered their ideas and thoughts to my "issue". I have determined that I am dealing with a patience issue, as well as trying to keep the mental leaps and bounds going at their current rate. I meditated two days ago and just decided to focus on the anxiety and breath light into it, and breath out the feeling. I was able to get past the feeling using this method, along with staying on a theme of strength in that meditation session. I was very happy because this was the first time that I successfully did this on my own. You are entirely correct in saying that it is all a learning experience. I am learning at this point that I need to be open to everything. I am at a point where I need to dis-spell the belief that I know everything it is that I need and what works for me. For I am just now scratching the surface on what it is that I need in my life. What has become very clear to me is that I have been putting myself in wrong situations for a very long time. Thank you for your input :)

Good stuff, Brian! I'm so happy you were able to release the anxiety. What I have been finding is that once I've been able to dissolve the feeling, if it comes back, recognizing its components, learning the lesson and releasing the feeling happens much more easily. Always just come back to the moment, especially when overwhelmed. That's a sign that you've fallen out of being in the present. So just be grateful for the sign and come back to what's here and now. It's much easier to work through things that way.

I think you're on the right track. Give yourself some BIG love. :-)

Agave, yes, that's it exactly! And I'm so glad. You're welcome.

Just keep bringing yourself back to here, back to now, and yes, sink into this very moment. Breathe into it. Over and over again.

You should feel proud of yourself and blessed that spirit is guiding you. I too have been heading in a great direction. The best thing is, so is my partner. It helps to have a support system. My partner has had a hard time connecting with spirit and letting go of fear. I have helped him a lot and sometimes he reminds me when I slip off path. I have been doing all this since my early twenties, but he is new to all of it, but learning at warp speed. I do feel men have harder tine connecting with this lifeforce due to societal brainwashing of how a man should be. The feminine energy is very powerful, but male energy is much needed for balance. I found eventually I was more comfortable with females and not so threatened by the male energy as it is very strong almost dominating. When you find that balance you will discover you are more gentle, caring, focused, and strong and driven person. You will find peace and clarity, and eventually true bliss and love. We all have the ability to love. When you figure it out, it can be very contagious.

    Hello Brian:

I loved the reponsed you received and I felt compelled to share with you that if you are still having a hard time meditating or asking yourself what the anxiety is there for etc... then please consider hypnotherapy. I'm a certified hypnotherapist and love what it can do for others and what it has done for me. There are plenty of good hypnotherapists out there, so I encourage you to seek this as an additional path to healing whatever seems to be holding you back from a wonderful meditaiton experience.

    Blessings your way - Deanna
